Table Captains are the heart of the National Dinners attendance. Each Table Captain strives to fill a table of 12, creating their own guest list and spending an inspirational evening surrounded with friends and family. As a “thank you” for helping to support the drive for equality, Table Captains are listed in most Dinner advertisements, invitations and program books.

Table captains for the National Dinner serve a critical role in the success of the event. By pledging to sell a full table of 12 seats, table captains ensure that the event is one of the largest and most successful fundraisers for the LGBT movement for equality. HRC also strives to assemble a diverse group of table captains in order to fully represent all communities in support of equality.
There is no financial commitment to become a table captain. HRC provides resources and assistance through the Table Captain Committee to maximize the number of table captains who successfully fill their table.
Filling your table begins with extending the invitation. Invite friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, or whoever else you feel may have an interest. The best invitation for your guests is a personal one. Invite them in person, by telephone, or e-mail. Use the sample ask letter below and either customize it to better match your tone and style or send it as is. The most important thing is to extend the invitation.
Start Early! Don’t wait until the last minute. People’s calendars fill up quickly. Getting on their schedules earlier will give you the highest likelihood of successfully filling your table. Even if they don’t buy the tickets right away, your potential guests will be aware of the Dinner and of your desire to have them attend.
Let them know that this year is a vital one for LGBT equality. Given the powerful political, corporate and individual relationships HRC has built over the years, it is uniquely positioned to influence legislation at the national, regional and local levels. Workplace equality, marriage equality, and ending the ban on gays in the military are all key HRC issues.
Attending the Dinner not only reinforces a strong sense of pride in our community, but also provides critical financial support for the HRC to continue its mission. The event serves as one of the primary fundraisers for HRC.
Beyond making an impact on our future, the dinner is a fun and energizing evening. The silent auction has some wonderful items to bid on, including travel, artwork, and one of-a-kind experiences. The people at your table, and throughout the event, will be great company. And they’ll walk away from the evening knowing that they’re making an impact on LGBT equality.
Have your guests choose your name from the Table Captain pull-down menu in the “check out” section of Box Office Tickets when they are purchasing their tickets for the National Dinner. A seat is only reserved by purchasing a ticket for the Dinner.
I would like to invite you to participate in something really important to me and important to our community; I have signed up to be a table captain for the Human Rights Campaign 17th National Dinner on Saturday, October 25, 2014 in Washington, DC. If you’ve been to one of HRC’s dinners in the past, you know what a fun, inspiring, and empowering event it is, and I’m sure this year will also be great. As a table captain, I have committed to filling the 12 seats at the table, and would love to have you join us.
As you know, HRC is the country’s largest organization working for full equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans. The sweeping victories of pro-LGBT candidates in recent election cycles, incredible movement on gay rights within corporate America, and marriage equality becoming a reality in numerous states across the nation, are all successes HRC has fought for over the past few years.
